Sucarnochee RevueA Musical Radio Program featuring Musical Artists from the Black Belt Region

The Sucarnochee Revue is a one hour Radio program featuring the music, and musicians from the Black Belt Region of Mississsippi and Alabama. A two hour live show is taped at the University of West Alabama and the Temple Theatre in Meridian, Ms.. The live audience averages 400 in attendance in Alabama and 750 in Mississippi.

The Sucarnochee Revue has also been filmed and was aired on two Fox affiliates and one ABC affiliate. The Sucarnochee Revue is in the process of becoming a thirty minute syndicated television series.

Purpose:

The University and Artistic Community of Livingston,Alabama and the Tourism Departments in the state of Alabama and city of Meridian, Mississippi have made great efforts to be recognized nationally in the world of Folk Music, and Folk Culture. The Sucarnochee has proven to be an effective ambassador and herald of this goal.

In doing so, the “Sucarnochee Revue” has introduced radio listeners in Alabama, Mississippi, and importantly, other parts of the nation to this region’s original, and traditional music. The “Sucarnochee Revue” serves to present a real showcase for professional talent from our corner of the South.

The Alabama Governer’s Committee on Black Belt Tourism and Expansion sanctioned a formal resolution pledging support for this project.

Host of the Show:

The host of the “Sucarnochee Revue” is Jacky Jack White of Livingston Alabama. Jack has lived in Alabama for twenty years. He is married to Jody Tartt also of Livingston, Al. Jacky Jack White has had songs on the charts as a singer/songwriter since 1985. Some of the artists who have recorded his songs are: Ray Stevens, Charley Pride, Buddy Jewell, Steve Wariner, Neal McCoy and Mark Lowery. Jack has received an ASCAP Award for “If I Didn’t Love You”, and a NSAI Award for the #1 Southern Gospel song, “When Men Pray.”

Artists:

We have featured artists from the Country, Bluegrass, Southern Gospel, RocknRoll, Blues, Black Gospel, and all the other fields of music from this musically rich and vibrant region. Artists we have had on past shows include: Wood Newton; Billy Ray Reynolds; Rock Killough; Karen Staley; George Teren; the Sullivan Family; Earl Montgomery; Little Jimmy Reed; Willie King; the Monroeville Songbird Choir; Time Zone; Sam Moore; Vanessa Hill; Willie Lee; Carl Ray; Frank Rogers; and the list goes on.

Recent Awards and Grants:

The Sucarnochee Revue has received two $5,000 grants from the Black Belt Community Foundation, and a $25,000 grant from the Alabama Department of Tourism. Also, Jacky Jack White was recognized for his recording, writing, and radio career with a 2009-2010 Fellowship in Music Grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. Perhaps, the most notable recognition came from the Country Music Association headquarted in Nashville, Tennessee. The Sucarnochee Revue was awarded a citation for the significant role the show has in taking Grassroots Music to the world.
